Indianapolis, Indiana – July 24, 2025 – MD Architects (MDA), a leading architecture and interior design firm specializing in veterinary and human healthcare facilities, is proud to announce its remarkable success in the dvm360 2025 Hospital Design Competition, securing both the coveted Hospital of the Year award for Sherwood Family Pet Clinic and a distinguished Merit Award for BluePearl Grand Rapids Emergency Pet Hospital.

Sherwood Family Pet Clinic
Hospital Design of the Year – Mid-Sized Category
The Sherwood Family Pet Clinic project, located in Sherwood, OR, stood out among a competitive field for its exceptional blend of aesthetic appeal, operational efficiency, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of both animals and the veterinary team.
“It is so rewarding to know that the work by the Team including the client, consultants and contractors is recognized by the veterinary community and our peers. It’s even more special since this is the second time I’ve worked with Dr. Merrill, and I know how much he loves this building,” said Jennifer Phang, Vice President of Seattle Design Operations at MD Architects.
The award-winning design for Sherwood Family Pet Clinic features:
- Thoughtful Workflow Optimization: A meticulously planned layout that streamlines patient intake, diagnostics, treatment, and discharge, significantly enhancing staff efficiency and reducing stress.
- Species-Specific Comfort Zones: Dedicated, acoustically controlled waiting areas, exam rooms, and treatment spaces for both canine and feline patients, minimizing anxiety and promoting a Fear-Free experience.
- Biophilic Design Integration: Extensive use of natural light, calming color palettes, and organic textures to create a soothing, nature-inspired environment that benefits patients, clients, and staff well-being.
- Future-Proofed Infrastructure: Strategic planning for advanced technology integration and adaptable spaces, ensuring the clinic can seamlessly evolve with future medical advancements and service expansions.
The dvm360 Hospital Design Competition is one of the most respected awards in the veterinary industry, celebrating the finest examples of veterinary hospital architecture and design that set new benchmarks for functionality, aesthetics, and positive impact on the veterinary profession.
