The new Michiana Humane Shelter is a ground-up, 22,435 square-foot, single-story animal shelter in Michigan City, Indiana. This project is currently in the early stages of design.
The shelter design was created to promote efficiency, minimize stress for animals and people, provide an elevated standard of care, and encourage community support. Our team incorporated thoughtful spatial planning, natural lighting, and advanced ventilation systems into the design to accomplish these client goals.
The layout optimizes staff workflows for seamless movement between animal housing, medical facilities, and administrative areas. The new shelter will also feature welcoming and accessible public spaces to further foster a sense of community involvement.

The Michiana Humane Shelter represents a significant investment in animal welfare for the Michigan City community. It’s estimated that construction will begin in late 2025 and be completed in 2027.
